Robin Williams

Robin Williams’Zelda, the daughter, disputes a viral post that suggests her father owned a pet monkey.

Zelda Williams is refuting a widely shared post regarding Robin Williams, her father.

The 35-year-old actress and director denied a post on Sunday, August 11, which stated that the deceased actor owned a pet monkey. On the tenth anniversary of Robin’s passing, she responded.

The initial image of Robin smiling with his pet monkey perched on his shoulder was posted on X (formerly Twitter) on August 10 along with the statement,

“It’s been brought to my attention some probably AI written BS like this is going viral,” Zelda said in response to the post that she had reshared. Dad didn’t own a pet monkey; nobody should, and in the event that you’re tempted, donate to the local exotic animal rescues.

She went on, “That is his Night at the Museum costar, who now lives at one,” alluding to Crystal, the monkey that portrayed Dexter in the Robin-starring Night at the Museum series.

Zelda clarified that the photograph of her father “is a real picture” in the post’s comments section, adding, “It’s just not the last picture.”

August 2014 saw the suicide death of Robin. With his second wife Marsha Garces, the late actor shared Zelda and his son Cody, 31, and with his first wife Valerie Velardi, he had an elder son named Zak, 40.

In a follow-up post on August 11, the anniversary of her father’s passing, Zelda also addressed comments made on social media about him.

Zelda spoke candidly with PEOPLE back in December, sharing her happy recollections of her father prioritizing spending time with his family to create Christmas customs.

Being together was crucial, Zelda said, “because otherwise, it became even more special to do that, especially with people scattered to the wind with work.”

“Keeping anything resembling an annual tradition, save for Thanksgiving or days when sets would close, was really difficult due to Dad’s work,” she added. We didn’t really have a lot of that, but our family greatly valued the time we spent cooking together. Every Tuesday, regardless of the number of family members in town, we would have dinner together.

On the tenth anniversary of his passing, Son Zak remembers Robin Williams, saying, “I’m Reflecting on the Immense Love You Shared.”

Robin’s son Zak paid homage to his father on Instagram, sharing a picture of the actor from his time on “Mork & Mindy.”

Ten years after his father’s passing, Zak, the son of Robin Williams, is honoring his father.

Zak, 41, shared an emotional message to his father on Sunday, August 11, along with a photo of the Oscar winner.

“Dad, it’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years,” he said in the comment that he included under the picture of Robin in the Mork & Mindy comedy series.

The day of Robin’s suicide was August 11, 2014. His age was sixty-three. Prior to passing away, Zak stated in 2020 that his father “took great lengths to support his well-being and mental health, especially when he was challenged.”

As an actor and comedian, Robin won over countless admirers throughout the course of his career. In the 1970s, he started out doing stand-up comedy. He then starred in a number of films, including Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Aladdin, and Good Will Hunting.

In 1988, he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for the film Good Will Hunting, for which he had four Oscar nominations. In addition, he received five Golden Globes and two Emmy Awards.

After a picture of Robin with Crystal the monkey, who portrayed Dexter in Night at the Museum, went viral, Zak’s sister Zelda Williams also shared an homage to Robin, dispelling allegations that he had a pet monkey.
