Moana 2 Trailer:With Known and Unknown Faces, Moana and Maui Set Sail on an Epic Ocean Adventure

The latest teaser for Moana 2, which made its premiere at D23 on August 9, features the return of Dwayne Johnson’s Maui alongside the return of Auli’i Cravalho’s hero.

At the event, Cravalho also sang the brand-new song “We’re Back” from the movie.

A synopsis for the 2016 film Moana states that Moana travels “on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui” in this follow-up, which takes place three years after her initial expedition.

 

The cast of Moana also includes Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo, Awhimai Fraser, Gerald Ramsey, and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Moana’s little sister Simea. Temuera Morrison plays Chief Tui, Moana’s father, while Nicole Scherzinger plays her mother, Sina.

Disney first revealed the first teaser trailer for the Moana sequel in May, after announcing it in February. Additionally, a live-action version of Moana is planned, with a 2026 release date.

What can be expected from Cravalho’s character in the animated sequel? “She’s growing,” the 23-year-old recently told PEOPLE. She is currently pushing herself past the reef even more.

According to Cravalho, throughout the over eight years since the first film’s premiere, she “felt like I grew right along with” Moana.

On Nov. 27, Moana 2 opens in theaters.

At D23, Dwayne Johnson Dancingly Unveils the “Moana 2” Trailer

The first extended clip for Moana 2 features a resurgent Auli’i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as the demigod Maui. At D23 Friday, where Johnson and Cravalho were present for a musical performance from the film, the new design was introduced to rapturous applause.

Derrick said the following about the movie’s premise at the time: “We begin our story with Moana, three years after the first film.” In an attempt to locate other humans, she is mapping the ocean, exploring the seas, and looking for new islands. Moana understands that the ocean binds us together because the residents of Motunui have not seen one another in generations.

The first looks at numerous other upcoming flicks that Mouse House showed at D23 in Anaheim, coincided with the trailer’s release. In addition, the company is working on a live-action Moana film, directed by Thomas Kail, which is scheduled for release in 2026 and stars Johnson as Maui and debutant Catherine Laga’aia as Moana.

Disney gave fans an early peek at upcoming films and TV shows, such as “Moana 2,” during a thrilling showcase that included live performances, surprise guest appearances by actors including Dwayne Johnson, Zoe Saldaña, and Jude Law.
