David Lynch Director makes it clear that, despite his sickness, he will not resign.

 

Despite being diagnosed with emphysema, “Twin Peaks” creator David Lynch Director claimed on Monday that he is happy and will never retire, reiterating prior statements he made to the magazine Sight and Sound that he would probably have to cease working.

The 78-year-old American director said on social media site X that he was grateful to everyone who expressed concern about his health, saying that his history as a smoker contributed to the development of emphysema, a lung ailment for which there is now no recognized treatment.

“Yes, after many years of smoking, I do have emphysema. He received 1.3 million likes on his post, “I have to admit that I really enjoyed smoking, and I do love tobacco-the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them.”

With the exception of emphysema, I am in great health, according to the results of several tests I had recently,” he continued.

In the September cover story interview with Sight and Sound, he also revealed that he was frightened of getting COVID-19, which would put his health at even greater risk, and that he was no longer able to leave his house.

Because I smoked for so long, I developed emphysema, which makes me housebound whether I want it or not. And it would be really bad for me to get sick now, even with a cold, because of COVID,” Lynch said to the British publication.

The director of “Eraserhead” and “The Elephant Man” added that he could only walk so far before his oxygen ran out.

A request for response from Lynch’s representative was not answered.
Lynch had doubts about directing in person ever again, but he did rule out the idea of doing so from a distance.

“I would really hate that,” he continued, acknowledging that the Oscar-nominated director would not want to direct digitally.

David Lynch Director disclosed in an interview with Sight & Sound magazine that he was diagnosed with emphysema as a result of his lifelong smoking habit. As a result, he needs to stay “homebound” in order to prevent colds, COVID-19, and other illnesses. Lynch went on to say that although he could direct films “remotely,” he “wouldn’t like that so much.” Following rumors that the veteran creative would be retiring, Lynch clarified today that this is not the case in an official statement.

Lynch said in his statement, “Yes, my many years of smoking have caused me to have emphysema.” “Tobacco has a price, and for me, that price is emphysema, even if I must admit that I loved smoking and the scent of tobacco, burning cigarettes on fire, and smoking them.. I just underwent a number of tests, and the good news is that—aside from emphysema—I am in fantastic health. I will never retire because I am so happy. I want everyone to know how much I value their concerns.

 

Lynch’s ingenuity hasn’t previously been constrained by being housebound. He started the “What Is David Working on Today?” video series and the daily weather reports on YouTube during the outbreak. In the last several years, he has also directed a music video for Donovan, produced the short films Fire (Pożar) and WHAT DID JACK DO?, and published his latest album, Cellophane Memories, in collaboration with Chrystabell. Inland Empire, Lynch’s most recent feature film, was released in 2006.

Therefore, I would most likely be directing from home. That wouldn’t be to my liking. I prefer to be in the thick of things and pick my brains there. But if it comes down to it, I would try to shoot [a film] remotely.

Following up on his remarks, which sparked a heated debate among followers, the 78-year-old clarified on X that he would not be quitting his job.
