England Mason Greenwood ended his turbulent time at Manchester United, the Premier League team where he was once regarded as one of its most intriguing prospects, on Thursday by moving to Marseille.
The 22-year-old forward cost Marseille 31.6 million euros ($34.5 million), according to a source with knowledge of the deal’s specifics who spoke with The Associated Press. When he was arrested in 2022 and charged with attempted rape, domineering and coercive behavior, and violence, his bright career came to an abrupt end. Last year, the case was dismissed.
Greenwood, however, was loaned to Getafe when United suspended him due to protests from supporters about a potential return to the team.
His relocation to Marseille was also met with opposition; the mayor of the city expressed his worries.
