Jake Fromm

Dan Campbell discusses some roster changes, such as the signing of Jake Fromm.

Dan Campbell gave an explanation of the Lions’ decision to sign Jake Fromm and why dismissing Antoine Green was the proper move.

For the second day in a row, the Detroit Lions had to make some major roster changes. On Monday, they made a few moves.

Most notably, quarterback Jake Fromm was signed by the Lions while receiver Antoine Green was dismissed or injured.

After Green sustained a concussion and maybe a neck injury against the New York Giants in the preseason opener, coach Dan Campbell gave an explanation on Monday night.

“Yes, that’s something that we definitely had several doctors look at his scans and we thought that this was the best thing we could do for him,” Campbell replied. That is its current state. We adore the child; he works hard and is dedicated, but that injury is difficult.

Green will return to the Lions’ injured reserve list if he clears waivers. Although he might make a comeback this season, Detroit would have to wait a defined period of time before re-signing Green and make an injury compensation offer to him.

Regarding Fromm—whose signing was required because second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker had a concussion—Campbell mentioned that they were pleased with the way he handled himself in the pocket.

He’s a sharp, conceited man. We think he‘ll be able to manage the offense really quickly, so he can run out and assist us if necessary, Campbell added.  We believe he can be useful in the pocket, and he was happily available. He worked out today, and it seemed to go well, so we’ll see how it develops.

Fromm has only appeared in three NFL games, all in 2021 while playing for the Giants. With the Washington Commanders across three preseason games last year, Fromm completed 28 of 41 passes for 261 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

Michigan football quarterback signs with the Detroit Lions

Jake Fromm, a former quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs, has signed with the Detroit Lions. This offseason, Fromm had previously tested out for the Green Bay Packers but was not signed by the team.

With the Lions, he has now found a new home. Before being discharged by the Washington Commanders in May 2024, Fromm most recently performed with them.

After being traded, Fromm signed with the New York Giants, where he started two games in 2021 but had a lackluster season. Fromm spent the most of his time at Washington on the practice squad from 2022 to 2024 after leaving the Giants.

He is primarily a candidate for the Detroit practice squad. The other three quarterbacks for the Lions are Hendon Hooker, Nate Sudfeld, and Jared Goff. After his poor preseason performance, Fromm can edge out Sudfled for a position on the roster.

The Lions used social media to publicize Jake Fromm’s signing and other related actions.

Among the more than sixty Georgia Bulldogs on NFL rosters is Fromm. Among the few former Georgia quarterbacks hoping to make an impression in the preseason is him.

Lions waive their 2023 draft pick and sign a new QB.

On Monday, the Detroit Lions signed a new backup quarterback prospect, among other roster changes.

Linebacker Ty Summers and quarterback Jake Fromm have signed with the Lions.

Following an injury, they also waived wide receiver Antoine Green, a former seventh-round selection of the team in 2023.

Jake Fromm may not be a viable backup quarterback option, but the Lions will see him play after Hendon Hooker was sidelined with a concussion in the first preseason game.

Buffalo selected Fromm in the 2020 draft; he has also played for the Commanders and Giants.
